富岡八幡宮

富岡八幡宮は寛永４年（1627年）、当時永代島と呼ばれていた現在地に御神託により創建されました。今も昔も変わらぬ信仰を集める「江戸最大の八幡様」です。江戸勧進相撲発祥の地として有名です。江戸時代の相撲興業は京・大阪からはじまりますが、 トラブルが多くしばしば禁令が出ていました。1684年幕府より春と秋の2場所の勧進相撲が許されます。その地こそが当宮の境内だったのです。以降約100年間にわたって本場所が境内にておこなわれました。明治33年、歴代横綱を顕彰する碑が建立されました。この碑には初代明石志賀之助から72代稀勢の里関までの四股名が刻まれています。　新横綱誕生時には相撲協会立会いのもと刻名式がおこなわれ、新横綱の土俵入りが奉納されます。 Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine was founded in 1627 (the fourth year of the Kan'ei era) by divine revelation on its current site, then known as Eitaijima. It remains the largest Hachiman shrine in Edo, attracting faithful worshippers to this day. It is famous as the birthplace of Edo-style sumo, a form of sumo wrestling. During the Edo period, sumo began in Kyoto and Osaka, but troubles abounded, leading to frequent bans. In 1684, the shogunate permitted two tournaments, one in spring and one in autumn, to be held within the grounds of this shrine. For the next 100 years, tournaments were held within the grounds. In 1900, a monument commemorating the successive yokozuna was erected. The shikona (sumo wrestlers' names) of all the wrestlers, from the first yokozuna, Akashi Shiganosuke, to the 72nd yokozuna, Kisenosato, are engraved on the monument. When a new yokozuna is born, a name-engraving ceremony is held in the presence of the Sumo Association, and the new yokozuna performs a dohyo-iri (entering the ring).
